Frequently Asked Questions
How much do the trishaw rides cost?
Cycling Without Age is a 100% volunteer-based organisation. All of our rides are completely FREE!
Ride times
Ride times will be approximately 1.5 to 2 hours.
Rides may be cut short due to weather, mechanical failure of the trishaw, or at the passenger’s request. We do ask that you arrive 15 minutes before the start of the ride so we can complete a pre ride checklist and briefing.
What kind of bikes are used?
The trishaws are specialised bikes built in Copenhagen by TrioBike. They are electric assist and hold two passengers and the pilot.
Who can be a pilot?
Anyone who loves to interact with people and likes to ride a bike. The Trishaws are power assisted and are easy to ride. Training will be provided for all volunteers.
Can we stop for appointments or do errands during a ride?
No. These rides are provided by volunteer pilots for recreational purposes only. Pilots may stop along the ride at parks, sports fields, playgrounds, along with coffee and/or ice cream shops.
How does the electric assist work?
The trishaws each have an electric assist option that the pilot is trained to use. The system uses a “Pedal Assist Sensor” that applies power only as you pedal (assuming the pilot chooses to use the pedal assist mode). The power assist level can be varied from no assist through several levels of assist (depending on the model), through a controller on the handlebars. Power assist is cut when you stop pedaling.
What to bring
Bring everything you need for the excursion (food and drink, medications, money, extra clothes, hat, sunblock etc.) and dress for the weather.
How much weight can the trishaw carry?
Our trishaws are able to take two passengers at a time with a maximum combined weight of around 150kgs – if this is not suitable, we take single passengers too! All passengers are safely secured with seatbelts and our trishaws are ridden by qualified volunteer pilots (cyclists) at a very slow speed so you can enjoy the surroundings and have a chat.
What does a typical ride look like?
One of the wonderful things about CWA is that there is no typical ride. Each one is different, depending on the passengers, the pilots, the route, the weather, and the community. But you can expect to enjoy yourself, tell stories about your life and your community, and being the centre of attention as people along the way smile and wave. Sitting up front in one of our trishaws puts the passengers first, which for many is something you may not have experienced in quite some time.
Seatbelts
Passengers must wear seatbelts at all times while in the trishaw.
Smoking / Alcohol / Recreational Drugs
Smoking, alcohol and recreation drug use are not permitted by passengers (or pilots) at any time on the trishaws. Pilots, at their discretion can refuse rides if they feel safety of the passengers or themselves is jeopardised.
Cancelling Your Ride
If you need to cancel your ride, we ask you to give us at least 24 hours notice.
Weather
In the case of inclement weather, the ride will be cancelled. This is at the discretion of the pilot. Only passengers who have booked a ride will be contacted by phone if the ride is cancelled.
Wheelchairs
Our bikes are not capable of carrying wheelchairs.
